How Often do Rugs Need to be Cleaned?
Sometimes it is quite obvious when a rug needs to be professionally cleaned. If you see that your rugs or carpets are clearly dirty, stained, dingy, or otherwise look bad, getting them cleaned is a good idea. Even if you haven't noticed that the rugs look exceptionally bad, however, it is still necessary to get them cleaned every so often. Most rug manufacturers recommend cleaning area rugs every 12-18 months at a minimum. If the rug is in a high-traffic area, or there are pets that play on the rug, it is typically necessary to have it cleaned at least once per year.
Why Clean Your Rugs?
People sometimes ask why it is necessary to professionally clean a carpet, even if it doesn't look terribly dirty. As rugs are used, dirt and other debris can be worked deep to the bottom of the rug where the fibers are attached to the base itself. Since these rugs are woven so tightly, any debris at this level can rub against the fibers, which can result in damage. If they aren't cleaned, this can result in damage that could include fibers falling out leaving patches in the rug. Regularly cleaning the carpets will pull this debris out, thus protecting the rug for years to come.
Is Vacuuming Enough?
Vacuuming is an important part of cleaning your rugs, but it is not sufficient. Regularly vacuuming a rug will remove a lot of the dirt, pet hair, and other debris. A small amount of it, however, will keep getting pushed deep into the carpets, which will cause problems. Our industrial strength rug cleaning machines will get deep into the rugs so that virtually nothing is left that shouldn't be there. Even if you didn't think that the rug was dirty based on how it looked, you'll be surprised at how much better it appears. Freshly cleaned rugs also smell great!
